Registration for Fall 2025 Recreation Soccer Will Open On June 14
Registration for the fall recreation season is now open. All registration will be online there will be no in person registration. The cost to register is $85 per player and is reduced to $50 per child for multiple children in a family. Registration costs have increased this past year due to increased cost of running the program. Registration is open to all children regardless of experience or skill level, It is available for everyone who wants to play. There are no tryouts or prerequisites. All players are required to have cleats and shin guards to play. Uniforms are included with registration, these are intended for both the fall and subsequent spring 2026 season. The season will start with practices once school starts after labor day. Registration will close on August 10th. Exact Game start date is only tentative right now. Once the league has a firm date an announcement will be made.
Please make any coach and/or teammate request during the registration process. Every effort will be made to accommodate these requests, but please remember it is not always possible. In order to keep our teams as manageable as possible, we ask that you make all these requests when registering. As this is the fall many players will be moving up in age group and some of these requests will not be able to be made. As a rule players can not play down in age but may play up.
Late registrations will only be granted for players who can be accommodated based on team size and need. All divisions have limits on participants and we have in the past needed to close divisions early due to overwhelming numbers. Please do not wait till the last minute to register. Registration will close On Sunday August 10.
All Newton United coaches are volunteers and we rely on these coaches to keep us running. We are always looking for new volunteers to help out. This is particularly true in the U8 and U10 age groups where we have our largest number of players. The more coaches we have, the more teams we can form. Please consider this option as you register your child. No team can have too many volunteers! All Newton United Volunteers and coaches are required to to have a background check in place. This is a requirement of all 3 towns we represent whose fields we use and of our governing body New Jersey Youth Soccer{NJYS} . All volunteers and coaches need to register as they register their child and complete the online trainings as required by NJYS ,this must be done every season. Information on obtaining the town mandated background check can be accessed on our coaches page. No coach or volunteer is allowed onto a field without having these checks in place.
About teams
Teams with game-aged players participate in the Sussex County Youth League (SCYL). These teams play approximately 8 games per season, on Saturdays. As we play teams from other towns in the county, there is some travel involved. All teams are recreation teams in this league. All teams are Co-Ed. These are recreational teams only, and we do not allow travel players to participate on these teams. This is a rule that is adhered to throughout the league. Any travel players found on a recreation team will be removed from the team without refund. All teams are formed based on a child's birth year, not on school grade. Under no circumstances are children allowed to play down in age group. Children may play up in age in some situations. An example of this would be to allow siblings to play together and help in transportation needs. If your child is close to the cut off for our instructional program please contact the club as we may be able to get your child into one of our programs.
Instructional Program
Through skill-oriented games and small-sided scrimmages each week, our youngest players will be able to learn and thrive in a fun and relaxed environment. This instructional program will now meet on Sunday mornings at Evergreen Park in Green Township for 8 weeks. There will be no Saturday Game schedule for this age group. All sessions will take place in the one location. Once registration is over, our trainers will be in touch to confirm the start date. If you are registering for this program please consider listing yourself as a volunteer. Our trainers are always looking for parental help, the support of parents to help manage these sessions is invaluable. It also provides an introduction to the club and the game for potential coaches and volunteers moving forward as children advance into the game playing age groups.
Starting this Fall registration for this program will be separated into the 3 separate groups based on age. Our first group will be for beginners. Those born in 2020. This group will meet at 9 AM and is intended as an introductory session for first time players and those younger players who may not feel comfortable with older children in this program. Only those born in 2020 will be able to register for this session.
Our second group will be for children born both in 2019 this group will meet at 1015 AM. This group will be for players that have some experience and those that know that they will be going on to play in our U8 teams next Fall. Previous experience is not a prerequisite but this group will be older than the first group.
Our third group will be a mix of both birth years and will meet at 1130 AM .This session will be geared to all players with or without any previous experience. It will continue to introduce basic skills and game play to all players in both birth years. Whether you are a first timer or a player that has some experience and just want to get out there and have some fun, this is the group for you.
